Household Tip of the Week

To speed up drainage of your tubs and sinks, pour down a cup of baking soda, followed up by a cup of white vinegar. After a few minutes, flush the drain with a gallon of hot water.

  1. So I tried this today and what I learned is that I have old crooked pipes. The main drain takes a sharp turn right after it goes down from the tub so the baking soda kind of piled up right there.

BUT I proceeded and could tell that the effervescent effect of the vinegar on the baking soda could definitely do a number on a clog. I tested out the drain this evening and I think it still worked some in spite of the almost 90 degree turn. So, I would recommend trying this for a clog before buying expensive de-cloggers or calling a plumber.
